Edhi Foundation owns largest fleet of ambulances in the world

Edhi Foundation Pakistan, has the largest fleet of Ambulances in the world. They own a fleet of over 700 Ambulances in different areas of Pakistan. According to Guinness Book, Edhi foundation is the Largest Voluntary Ambulance Organization of the World.

Edhi Foundation one of the largest non-profit social welfare program was founded in Karachi and still its headquarters are in Karachi Pakistan. The Foundation provides many other services like free hospitals and medical care, drug rehabilitation services, shelter for the poor and needy persons. The Foundation provides 24-hour emergency services across Pakistan and abroad. Their other valuable welfare services includes providing shelters to Orphans and Handicapped persons, Blood and Drug Banks, Healthcare, Education, air ambulance, marine and coastal services.

Abdul Sattar Edhi founded Edhi foundation in 1951, operating from a single room in Karachi and edhi being the sole member of this largest foundation. Edhi is the head of the organization and his wife Bilquis Edhi is in charge of adoption and maternity services. The foundation has now more then 300 centers across the country providing medical aid, family planning and all sort of emergency assistance. Air Ambulance has been used in emergency cases for easy access to remote and rural areas.

Only in Karachi, the foundation runs 8 hospitals providing free medical care, eye hospitals, surgical units, a 4-bed cancer hospital, two blood banks, diabetic centers and several mobile dispensaries. Till now more then 20,000 abandoned babies have been saved, 50,000 orphans are housed in Edhi homes, more then a million babies have been delivered in Edhi Maternity centers and about 40,000 qualified nurses have been trained.

Edhi Foundation providing welfare services not only in Pakistan but other countries as well including UK, Japan, Canada, USA and Bangladesh. They also provided aid to the victims of Gulf war in 1991 and earthquake victims in Egypt and Iraq.

Arfa Karim Randhawa (1995-2012) youngest MCP of the world

She came, she saw, she conquered and unfortunately she left us. Arfa Karim Randhawa, whose name when taken in front of people, they think of a small girl standing with Bill Gates in a photograph. What made her so special? Why she became so famous? Because, she was the youngest MCP (Microsoft Computer Professional) at the age of 9.

Arfa Karim Randhawa, born in 1995 in a small village of Ram Dewali, Faisalabad Pakistan. She was daughter of Lt.Col Amjid Karim serving in UN Peace keeping force in South Africa. Her mother is a land lady and looks after the matters of land in the absence of her father.

She was an outstanding student of her class as well as she was a good debater of her school. when she saw computer at the age of 5, she insisted her father to arrange a computer for her and she decided to take admission in Applied Technologies (APTECH) for further studies and at that time no one knew that this little princess will conquer the world of computer.

At just the age of 9 in 2004, she made a world record becoming world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCPs). This news spread all over the world like Jungle’s fire. She was in limelight and the tv channels proudly invited her to their live programs and to add the surprise Mr.Bill gates (Chairman Of Microsoft) personally invited her at Microsoft Head quarter. She along with her father met Bill Gates in July 2005. She also received Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal, Youth Award and Pride of Performance. She was the only Pakistani to attend Microsoft’s conference in Barcelona held in 2006.

December 22nd, 2011, a news shocked the whole Pakistan, that due to a cardiac disease she has been admitted to Hospital and is in coma. Bill Gates himself arranged a team of doctors for her, there wasn’t a single hand, who didn’t prayed for her. Although she was improving after a 3 weeks treatment but, on January 14th, 2012 she left this world and all of us. The whole nation mourned for her death. Without any doubt she was an asset of Pakistan. Arfa, We’ll never forget you.

Worlds largest painting of Pakistan flag

Pakistani students from Lahore, Punjab sets a new world record for making the largest painting of Pakistan flag.
The event occurred at the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore on 23rd March 2012. It’s been witnessed that more than 2000 students participated in the painting divided into 260 teams.

Total length of the painting was 41, 685.5 square feet while consuming 3,500 litres of paint.

Noor Mahal of Bahalwalpur Pakistan

Noor Mahal of Bahawalpur cannot be related to Taj Mahal in any way but there is some little resemblance, as both the monuments were built in honor of wives.

The palace is one hundred and forty years old and was built by Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan the Fourth for his wife Noor but she spend only one night in this awesome palace.
The exquisite palace meant to be residence of the Nawab and his family but legend says they spend only one night as they were cautioned against so because of the near proximity of a graveyard Basti Muluk Shah.

History of Noor Mahal Bahawalpur:

Although, there are different stories famous in Bahalwalpur district regarding the construction of Noor Mahal but among all, the famous legend is that Nawab of Bahawalpur Nawab Subah Sadiq Muhammad Khan IV laid the foundation for constructing this palace in honor of his wife Noor.

The design of this building was curated by Mr. Hennan, who was an Englishman and a state engineer and construction began in 1872. It’s been said that while foundation was constructed a map and coin of the state were buried as good omen. It took three years to build this building and construction work was completed in 1875 at a cost of R.s 1.2 million.

Noor palace covers an area of 44,600 square feet, it’s a double storey building with a basement as well and contains 32 rooms having 14 in basement, 6 verandas and 5 domes.

Although Noor Mahal did not serve the purpose of being the living place for Nawab and family but rather it was used for occasional cabinet meetings and State Court for the Nawab’s address to his courtiers and later it was used as a state guest house and some of the guests name worth mentioning in here:

• JAN 11, 1890: His Highness Prince Albert Victor was there as a guest in Noor Mahal.
• DEC 22, 1892: Sir McOrth Beck CCIS Senior Financial Commissioner of Punjab with family stayed at the palace for three days.

Also some other functions celebrated:

• MAY 11, 1897: The court was held on the 60th Birthday of the Queen Victoria.
• FEB 9, 1933: A historical function was arranged because of the union of the Birtish Government and the Bahawalpur State.
• MARCH 8, 1934: The Government of the State of Bahawalpur arranged a ten years jublie celebration in the lawn of Noor Mahal.

Worth mentioning the name of Nawab Bahawal Khan, who was the later ruler of the state of Bahawalpur for adding a Masjid to the palace in 1906.

The state of Bahalwapur was merged into Pakistan in 1956 and control of the palace was given to Auqaf under the Antiquities Act.Completed in AD 1875, later Pakistan army took responsibility of the palace in 1999 and help preserve the building to it’s original shape.
Currently Department of Archeology is responsible for the look after of the palace and they have opened it to general public, students and other delegates.

Ibn-e-Insha was a great poet, writer, columnist, travelogue writer and one of the greatest Urdu humorists of all times. He served many government based institutions and organizations but later he also spend some time with UN due to which he was able to visit many places that helped him to write some classical travelogues.

Baltoro Glacier:

Located in Baltistan in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, the Baltoro Glacier with a length of 38.5 miles is one of the longest glaciers outside the polar regions.  The glacier runs through part of the Karakoram, a large mountain range spanning the borders between India, Pakistan & China.  The glacier gives rise to the Shigar River, which is a tributary of the Indus River.

Ansoo lake – A view of paradise on the earth

Ansoo Lake is located in Pakistan and is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes around the globe. It is a lake with an amazing feature of being located at a very high attitude of 4245 above sea level. But the most amazing fact about this lake is that it is located on top of the Himalayan range. Thus it is little wonder that it has continued attracting many tourists from different parts of the world.  Though Pakistan has been able to boast about this awesome provision of nature, it is interesting to note that this is not a lake that can easily be located like any other lake around the globe.

Upon getting to a village that is located closest to the lake it can take up to seven hours of walking before finally reaching the its location. But this is mainly due to the fact that it is located in a mountainous area where there are no forms of human habitation to this day. Therefore, in order to locate it, there are tour guides who normally take tourists to this place. Some people can hire horses to make the trip more manageable but its been estimated that even if this is done, one will still have to walk up to 30 to 35 percent of the remaining distance.

The name Ansoo is taken from a word which is translated in English as teardrop. This is one description that fits the shape of that lake when viewed from a closer range or from and aerial view. But another look at the shape of the lake reveals that it can also be liked to the drawing of eyebrows around an eye. Whatever the case, many people earth-wide have continued taking interest in coming to know about this amazing and beautiful lake.

It was built in seven years, starting around 1634–1635 AD, during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. It was built by Hakim Shaikh Ilm-ud-din Ansari, a native of Chiniot, who rose to be the court physician to Shah Jahan and a governor of Lahore. He was commonly known as Wazir Khan, a popular title bestowed upon him (the word Wazir means 'minister' in Urdu). The mosque is inside the Inner City and is easiest accessed from Delhi Gate.

Colourful Ralli quilts made from recycled/ hand dyed cotton cloth in Sindh #Pakistan in Umerkot and Tharparkar. Rallis are getting international recognition. They have been exhibited for the first time in the US at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2003. Now the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has a growing collection of about 150 rallis.
